The great magnitude of it all .. x

 (image:kiksu.deviantart.com)
'The sun started to reappear a couple of minutes later, slowly, of course until colour once again saturated the sea and our faces, and birdsong filled the air, songs this time of joy, of relief. Cheers rang out from the cliff tops and the ra ta ta ta of applause. Yet we were all quiet for so long after, touched by the magnitude, the beautiful unfathomable magnitude of it all. This is what we are connected to. What we are all connected to. When the lights go out, so do we.'- Sarah Winman. (from When God was a Rabbit)

Hello my lovelies. How are you?? I feel like I have been away for the blog world a little longer than normal so havn't caught up with how you are!

Today I am going to recommend the book 'When God was a Rabbit' by Sarah Winman. The book is about the love between brother and sister, families and the bonds that strengthen us in life, from childhood through to the rest of our lives . The writing is fluid and magical, quite whimsical and makes me smile.....and the quote above in particular draws my heart.

Happy Monday/Tuesday

I started Drama School! :)

(image:via)
 Hello friends,

How are you all?

This week I properly started at drama school in London  (picture above!) where I am doing a Masters degree in Applied theatre. Applied theatre is using drama in community settings and educational places to change peoples lives and make a difference. Its as broad as a description as working in homeless shelters, with disabled children, in schools......I love theatre and want to use it to make a change. We have placements organised by the school too.

I have been overwhelmed meeting new people from all over the world- Finland, Norway, USA, Greece, Italy, Hong Kong, Ireland and the rest of UK..... :) It has been so amazing to meet other people who share that love of theatre and performance!!

How has your week been?

Beautiful Advice.

  (image:byanika.com)
'Whenever you feel unloved, unwanted, unsure, or just not enough for anyone else, ask yourself the question: "Who Am I?" What are your passions and dreams? What awesomeness are you accomplishing every day? It turns the focus back on yourself, because you are awesome and unique and beautiful. Once you start loving yourself, there will be no room for anyone else to make you feel unloveable in any way.'- Cassy, blogger at peaceandposies.blogspot.com

Dreams, Magic and Happiness...

Keep dreaming. A big dream of mine came true today. I enrolled at drama school! When I was a little girl, I used to look in the programmes of big theatre shows at the actors and actresses pages. When I found them, I would scan the information for any knowledge of where and when they trained, the top schools so I would know where to go! Although now, I don't want to be a full time actress, but a theatre practitioner working in education instead, it still has been my biggest dream to train at a specialist school. Please God, this year will hold many beautiful challenges but be a lot of fun!

What is your dream?

Happiness Wednesday: Finding Serenity

 (image:avoiceofpraise.blogspot.com)

Dear friends,

Happy Wednesday! We're now half way through the week and I hope you are all feeling well and happy... and if not, I hope today's post will make you smile.

I often want to feel serene, at peace in my life. Finding serenity is very hard to do. Sometimes its good to have a journal to write out our thoughts, getting rid of negative ones and replacing them with positive. Having a positive mind frame is important to finding peace. How else can we find serenity?

I am reading a book on serenity at the moment which says the key to finding it is to visualise yourself in a serene environment. That could be swimming through a pool of serene water, or imagining jolts of serene energy filling your body with peaceful energy. Saying calming mantras also reinforces the effect of visualisation, 'I am calm', 'I am serene in this moment' etc. Hearing the calming words soothes our spirit and mind. The book teaches that we really can choose to react serenely in challenging situations.

This is something I struggle with. I often wonder how can I be serene when I'm in a situation that makes me feel unhappy? Sometimes though we must shut out the unhappy thoughts and replace them with a tranquility of mind.

Stress, anger, upset are all challenging emotions to overcome. It is important that we feel and live our emotions, that they come out. However, dwelling for too long on a situation we can't change makes life worse. And even if we can change it, being in a negative cycle is really not good for us at all.

One of my personal favourites is the Serenity Prayer,

'God grant me the serenity
To accept the things that I cannot change,
The courage to change the things that I can
And the wisdom to know the difference'

Being in a serene state of mind is very difficult to achieve at times and must be practised. However, just take a few minutes out of your day to practise serenity and hopefully it will come.

How do you achieve your peaceful state??

Happy Monday Lovelies!

(image:ehappyhome.wordpress.com)

Hi friends,

I'm sorry I've been away for a while now. Its been a week since my last post! So what have I been up to?

Well, last week was Jewish New Year (Rosh Hashana). This is a special festival where we look back on the past year and evaluate our aims and goals for the year to come. So please God, I will have a special, good year to come and so should you all too! I spent a lot of time eating (us Jews celebrate with food!) with family and friends, walking to see my grandma and generally having a lovely time. I also prayed in synagogue. On Rosh Hashana, we eat sweet foods to symbolise a sweet year so I ate lots of honey cake that I made with my mum! Honey cake is surprisingly delicious.....

Since Rosh Hashana ended, I have just been relaxing and sorting myself out for my masters, which starts this Thursday! Ahh! rather excited but also a little nervous too!!

And how are you all? Whats news? Write me a comment with a little heads up on how you are!!

Love as always,

El xxxx
